THE BI-ANNUAL MCCORMICK’S Auction takes place in sunny Palm Springs, California the weekend before Thanksgiving. Is it worth the trip? Not if you dislike balmy breezes and a variety of (sometimes unexpected) vintage machinery: a trip to McCormick’s never feels like someone just ticked off all the boxes to say, “Oh, we need to have one of these for sale, and one of those...” and the experience is all the richer for it.
As ever, Friday was free preview day — anyone can come in and inspect the cars for free. As such, for old-car-friendly Palm Springs, visiting the McCormick’s auction is practically mandatory. That said, the weekend’s sales quarry is still rolling in on Friday, so you don’t always get to see everything on the docket if you get there too early. Regardless, attendees will always find plenty to catch the eye all the same, whether it’s an as-new classic or one that would benefit from some attention. And we suspect that some of what’s here might even end up in Scottsdale a few months
