Barking up the right tree

PART 1 OF 3

Part 2 in issue 269, on sale 26 May

I have a stump with a handle on it that I bring to every dog photoshoot. I actually boughtto have a natural-looking element that I can add to any outdoor scene where I need to get the dog up off the ground in order to nail a powerful shot. It gives me the ability to elevate the dog while I get even lower with my camera, while also looking like it completely belongs in the natural environment I might be shooting in! The stump works best with smaller dogs: think Chihuahuas and Yorkies and so on. But if you have a larger dog who can ‘post’ up on the stump by just stepping up onto it with his two front paws, it will also work a charm in changing up the perspective for more visual interest and power.
