Glen Ord is the second-largest malt distillery in Diageo’s portfolio, and now home to an impressively reimagined visitor centre. But if you try to buy the single malt it produces away from its place of origin, you are almost certain to be disappointed – ‘Singleton of Glen Ord’, as it is known, is exclusive to Asian markets and the distillery is its only retail outlet in Europe. All the more reason, then, to take a trip to the fertile farmland around the village of Muir of Ord, some 15 miles north-west of Inverness, where the Glen Ord Distillery is located.
