Smart toilet paper inventor takes on the IDC

When Zithande Mbala invented the world’s first smart toilet paper, with a R3 million loan approved by the Industrial Development Corporation of SA (IDC), he thought his future looked bright. But that was not to be.

Fast-forward to 2023, when Mbala finds himself in the legal battle of his life with the IDC. In July 2018, he received written communication from the IDC that it was approving funding of R3m for Phase 1 of his iWipe project.
