Reduced Merseyrail service after wheel bearing issues

CHANGES were made to timetables across the Merseyrail network in June, after a spate of wheel bearing problems reduced the availability of its Class 507 and Class 508 fleet.

The issues led to the entire fleet being tested and units found to have the fault being taken out of service for repairs.

From June 12, train services resumed (after being substituted with buses) on the Kirkby and New Brighton routes. Beginning the following day, trains were scheduled to run every 15 minutes between Southport and Liverpool Central and every 30 minutes on other lines, although, a week later, routes which usually have services at 15-minute intervals had their Monday-Saturday frequency
