Resilient railways
IN the wake of record UK temperatures, House of Lords crossbench peer Lord Birt, who was director-general of the BBC from 1992 to 2000, quizzed the Department of Transport (DfT) about the options available to ensure the resilience of the national rail network at temperatures in excess of 40°C.
Transport Minister Baroness Vere of Norbiton replied: “The DfT has plans in place and underway to adapt to and mitigate the risks
