Security firms ready to help fight crime

PRIVATE security companies in Durban are striving to help combat crime following several shootings over the past two weeks that resulted in at least 22 deaths.

The security companies, at times the first responders to crime scenes, said their officers were skilled and trained to assist the police and that their strategies were continually evolving.

Recently, there have been shootings in areas such as Springfield Park, Berea, oThongathi, aManzimtoti, Umbumbulu and Morningside. In one of them, a 9-year-old child and her parents were killed.
