What You Need To Know
1 Colours for model names?
And why not? Furch’s catalogue has a whole spectrum of models from Violet, Blue and Green right up to the higher level Orange, Red and special-order Rainbow series. We find it far less confusing than an apparently random series of letters for a model designation. Speaking of which…
2 What do the letters mean?
It’s pretty straightforward: the ‘G’ stands for the Grand Auditorium body shape; the lower case ‘c’ means there’s a cutaway. The next pair of letters tells you the body woods: ‘S’ means the top-wood is spruce, with ‘M’ mahogany or ‘R’ rosewood.
3 Does a higher cost always mean a better guitar?
Can of worms, anyone? Many factors come into play. It can be indicative of the company’s – or luthier’s – reputation and guarantee of quality. It could be related to the rarity and cost of the woods involved – some rosewoods are amazingly expensive today, for example. Or it could be the level of body furniture; fancy binding, exquisite pearl inlays and so on.
