EDITOR’S LETTER

have been a fan of GAETANO PESCE for as long as I can remember. I recently purchased his Up Series chair as a Christmas gift to myself last year, after lusting after it for that I love most about his iconic designs, that have always blurred the boundary between FURNITURE AND ART. The Italian master’s work epitomises what I love most about design — purpose-driven thinking that becomes part of everyday life forming lasting memories of home. Across six decades, Pesce has shocked, delighted and pushed the realms of architecture, urban planning, interior and industrial design. With his work set to be part of Neon Parc’s display at Melbourne Design Fair, is the FIRST PUBLICATION in the world to showcase Pesce at home in New York City, through the lens of his dear friend Olga Antipina who captured portraits. Our Melbourne editor Annemarie Kiely had the pleasure of talking with Pesce: “I found him REFRESHINGLY FORTHRIGHT and ready to address any question without fear of recrimination or judgement,” she says. “He is his own man. When you ask a tough question, he has the charming anecdote that proves his point.” And Pesce continues to inspire finding new admirers after his successful collaboration with Bottega Veneta — turn to page 39 for this exclusive insight into a , with special thanks to his team. This is our ART ISSUE, where our homes convey how curated paintings, sculptures and photographic work spaces — our cover star, the Melbourne home of A-esque founder Amanda Briskin-Rettig. showcases this. Art touches the soul and expresses spirit in a way nothing else can and this issue speaks to that incredible power.
