KNICKERS IN A TWIST

There’s a strong case to be made for the notion that your own happiness is more important than trying to win the approval of others. That you should stop caring about what other people think because, hey, have you met other people? Some of them are awful.

Dom Mattholie should know. In his quest to build his dream Mini, he’s had no end of abuse from the sort of stuck-up people who love to comment ‘RUINED’ on any picture they see online of a Mini that doesn’t meet with their own ideas of how things should be. And frankly, Dom stopped giving a toss a long time ago. This is the Mini he always wanted to build, and he relishes the brickbats. If his ruined Mini has hurt your feelings, well… at least it’s made an impact. And anyway, it’s not your Mini, it’s his.

“This was my first car, I bought it in 2013,” he explains. “I got into modifying cars through games and reading blogs such as Canibeat, Stanceworks and Speedhunters, as well as publications like Fast Car. I started attending local meets with friends before I could drive, which only made my desire to modify cars stronger. It was at one of these meets that I met up with one of my sister’s friends’ brother, Chris Denn. [See Mini Magazine 327 cover feature.] He really helped push me into some crazy modifications.”
