Coastal scenes have captured artists’ imagination for centuries and continue to evolve with each generation of artists. Today artists are able to tap into the legacy and inspiration of the past masters and also enjoy a whole new world of innovative materials to create highly imaginative and current versions of this majestic subject. It is both pointless and impossible to compete with mother nature, so the artist’s vision has a profound impact in giving a widely depicted genre such as seascape the stamp of individuality. The artist’s task is to elevate the subject to be much more than a photographic representation.

Nothing can replace the experience of painting from life; the sight, sound and smell of the sea creates a certain kind of spontaneous energy that can’t be created in the studio.
