Hi Baby…

Your mom, (bless her pedantic soul!), told me after she received the happy news of you being on the way, that she would love for you to have a play mat with different textures to touch and explore. I had a quiet chuckle as ‘texture’ would have been the last thing I would have worried about if I were in her shoes. I think you would probably and for quite a while too, rather prefer to focus on other t-words like tits and teats.

Your young mother, with you the germinating seed in her hothouse, looked at me expectantly as if I would be the one to promptlyto take a piece of the dark blue gabardine material which was top-stitched with red zig-zag as it would not only give you two different textures, but will also teach you two primary colours. In the meantime, she said she would collect cut-out squares of your dad’s old boyhood t-shirts (which he unbelievably kept!) as a nostalgic touch. I gave a sarcastic snort asking her if she would like me to hunt down a piece of elephant and springbok skin as well, and if a form of plastic should also be part of this collage…
