ERCOL

For such a deceptively simple design, an astounding amount of folklore surrounds the Windsor chair. One legend has it that the name arose from the reign of King George II (1727-1760), when the king sought shelter from a storm in a peasant's home. He was offered a seat, and was so impressed by its design that he ordered several to be made for Windsor Castle. Alternatively, the Windsor might be the brainchild offor lightweight, flexible seating. Whatever the origin, the Windsor has endured, and today one of the most recognisable versions of the style is produced by British furniture brand Ercol.
