LARKS’ LEGACY

Thank you for a very good and informative article on King Crimson’s Larks’ Tongues In Aspic [Prog 138]. A seminal album indeed! One quibble: I would have liked to see the article extended by three to four pages to also discuss the shows where material from the album was performed live, in October to December 1972. This was a fantastic quintet live, with the maverick spirit of Jamie Muir adding an altogether different dimension – he left the band after these shows, but several have been made officially available, and besides songs from Larks’ Tongues… they all feature ferocious, adventurous improvisations of the highest order. The material on the Frankfurt show in particular (Zoom Club, October 13, 1972) takes rock music just about as“out” as it can go (this side of a prime 1972 Dark Star by the Grateful Dead). All That Glitters Is Not Nail Polish from the Guildford show (November 13, 1972) is another devastating improv.

Big apologies all round if you’ve already run (around 18 months) I could well have missed out on historic articles, however please indulge me for a minute or two and let’s assume these are gaps that need plugging.
