Transport for Wales withdraws Class 175s on safety grounds

FOLLOWING three separate fires aboard Class 175s, Transport for Wales removed the 27-strong diesel multiple unit fleet from traffic for checks, before slowly returning the trains to traffic.

On February 8, No. 175008 suffered a fire while operating the 1V90 04.25 Holyhead-Cardiff Central with No. 175009, just north of Wrexham. This was followed on February 22 by No. 175101, which caught fire at Wilmslow while forming the 1W23 16.49 Cardiff Central-Manchester Piccadilly, and then No. 175007 suffered a fire at Wilmslow on March 1, while forming the 1W10 06.29 Crewe-Manchester
