NEW WAGONS are appearing in the Hornby catalogue once again, with Salmon track panel carriers and TTA tank wagons being announced for the 2023 range. A new wagon announced in 2022 arrived in the shops in early 2023: the GWR ‘Loriot Y’ machinery truck or ‘Weltrol WY’ in BR terminology.
Two Diagram G39 25t Loriot Y wagons were constructed at Swindon works in 1939 for the carriage of heavy machinery, primarily excavators. One survived long into BR ownership, being allocated to the CE yard at Radyr which was a mecca for wagon enthusiasts at one time.
