riving across the New Forest earlier today, I spotted a curlew in its bubbling display flight. Not so long ago I would have just carried on my way, but these days there are many fewer breeding in the Forest, so I pulled into a lay-by and jumped out to enjoy the wonderful song. Almost inevitably this led me to reminisce
