Cage & Aviary Birds

BIRDKEEPER AT LARGE

FEEL THAT I must give my total support to the Cage & Aviary Birds campaign to respond to the Government consultation on the registration of all birdkeepers and the number of birds they keep. I first heard about this through David Jones of the Internationa! Turaco Society and Nigel Hewston of the Avicultural Society at the beginning of March - and was deeply shocked by the implications.

I can fully understand DEFRA's desire to halt, as far as possible, the effects of avian influenza by whatever restrictions they feel would be effective. As I understand, the present restrictions apply mainly to poultry especiallythat might have contact with the wild population arguably makes sense.
