IT’S SHOWTIME!

“GG 1627 SPENT MOST OF THE 1930s IN THE FORT WILLIAM AREA OF SCOTLAND…”

In The Autocar magazine of October 18th, 1929, there is a I report which describes many of the cars exhibited at the London Motor Show, held at Olympia in Kensington from October 17th to 26th. Under ‘Coachbuilders’ Exhibits’ is a section of products by Carbodies of Holyhead Road, Coventry, which includes a picture of an M.G. 18/80.

The caption reads: “A striking M.G. Six sports two-seater by Carbodies”. Although the image reproduced here is not of super quality, aficionados of 18/80s will have no trouble recognising the MG as Jerry Targett’s unique car, registration number GG 1627. The triangulated windscreen pillars, the huge rear deck and, most of all, the aerofoil running boards make it easy to recognise.
