South Africa's macadamia nut industry is considered fairly young at just 50 years of commercial production, and there is much room for research on how to solve its most pressing issues.
On a recent visit to Australia to learn from macadamia farmers there, Adriaan Heydenrych, technical project manager at Agristar Macadamias in Mpumalanga, discovered key research that could have a positive effect on the yields achieved on farms elsewhere in the world.
He points to the following three areas where further research could deliver profitable
