A monarch who REALLY CARES

Perhaps one of the benefits of the Queen’s record-breaking reign was that King Charles had well over half a century to prepare for the role, so we’ve learnt about his guiding lights: community, sustainability, heritage and harmony. As he takes his place on the throne, we celebrate the ambitions of this 21st-century King.

If you were put on the spot and asked to name King Charles III’s major passions, ‘the environment’ is likely to pop up in your head (along with Camilla, Queen Consort, of course!).

In 1970, aged just 22, he made a speech decrying the use of ‘non-returnable bottles and indestructible plastic containers’. Many dismissed his attempts to raise awareness as the ramblings of particular interests, friends have said he will never slow down on climate action.
