In her recent article [Issue 1555, March 13] Amanda Spielman rightly points out that “rehabilitation has to start with education”. This cuts down crime because those turned around from offenders to honest citizens no longer want to do wrong. She adds that many prisoners can’t read or write. This failure seriously hinders their job opportunities.
