Polyend Play is a stand-alone groovebox with some interesting features that make this compact device recommendable for those special ideas in the studio, as well as for jams and live performances. Since any kind of sound and instrument can be loaded into Play, plus up to eight additional sound generators can be controlled by the groovebox via MIDI, Play is not limited to any particular style of music.
Creative limitations
A notable limitation is the lack of a direct recording function. The user‘s own audio files have to be imported from the computer to the device using the SD import function. Once the material is loaded into Play, however, it can be extensively customized and manipulated without much effort - and without much training time or a steep learning curve as with some Elektron instruments, for example. Besides the missing sampling option, there are also a few other limitations compared to the big groovebox battleships or computer plus controller, but we found them to be more creative than limiting
