Three out of four heavyweights put on a show

THREE of the‘Big Four’pre-Nationalisation companies put on an entertaining show for their live online audience in GW Railwayana’s March 11 sale, with only the LNER missing out on the action. Centre stage went to the GWR with the two top nameplates plus one other, but the LMS, with three nameplates and two smokebox numberplates, and the SR also with a nameplate, were a strong supportfrom No. 6012 that went under the hammer for £19,500, thus indicating that, despite the increasing influence of diesel and electric traction railwayana, steam era collectors remain loyal to their longstanding favourites. And on a similar theme, nameplate from Jubilee No. 45614 were each firmly in five-figure territory, at £13,000 and £11,000 respectively.
