Picking up my phone as a new message came through, I knew exactly what to expect.
With breath-taking views, videos and stunning sunset pictures, there was a familiar face standing proudly at the bottom – my dad Gerry, now 39.
Loving an adventure, with hiking one of his favourite passions, Dad had walked all over Scotland, climbed Ben Nevis for charity and even travelled as far as Africa to climb Kilimanjaro.
And as a kid, I’d often get dressed up in my walking gear to join him from time to time – even if it was incredibly tough.
Only, knowing that I could talk to my dad about anything, looking out at the best views I had ever seen, it was a way for us to make so many amazing memories together.
So much so, my dad wasn’t only my parent, but my best friend – my role model in fact.
