Southern Home

Brooke and Steve Giannetti

Southern Home (SH): We’ll begin with a question we’re sure you’ve been asked many times recently. Y’all created such an idyllic home, Patina Farm, in Ojai, California, and the rest of us fell in love with your house, land, and animals through your books, blog, and videos on social media. Why in the world would you ever leave?

Steve Giannetti (SG): It’s what we do—we make cool things. I think we’d done everything we could do there, and what was also happening was Brooke had dreams for a place where we’d be more closely tied to a community, could host tours and events, and have more visitors. We started talking about moving somewhere that would be easier to do, with a bigger canvas to design.

SH: What led you to Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee, and the South in general?

I was working on a couple of projects in Tennessee and became drawn to the landscape, the people, the little towns.
