GAIL KIM HESITATES. Not because she’s not sure, but because she’s thinking. She’s thinking about all the women who helped pave the road to this point. Some of those women are remembered among the best wrestlers of the last two decades, while others are barely remembered at all. Still, each of them played their part, and she understands how important it is not to diminish anyone’s hard work. But the question PWI just asked Kim isn’t about the past; it’s about the present, and about just how good the division she helped bring to life has become. With nothing but respect for those who came before, she knows that today may very well be the golden age of the Knockouts division.
“Our division right now, up and down the roster, is just so solid,” she says glowingly. “Every girl has something different to offer, and I’m just so amazingly proud of where the Knockouts are.”
And where the Knockouts are, is at the vanguard of women’s wrestling in the United States. Turn on IMPACT Wrestling’s weekly TV show and chances are that you will be treated to multiple women’s matches that are both high-quality and highly competitive. Indeed, all too often, it feels like other promotions ration their divisions’ screen time down to that of the champion and whomever is her current challenger. Meanwhile, most everyone else waits in the wings.
“I know in my career, I never let up. I always felt that as Knockouts, we had to prove ourselves. And I know the girls still feel that way right now about themselves.”
