It's now over two years since Britain left the EU. Many of us are still getting used to the repercussions and one of the latest changes coming along is a transition from the European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA) to a GB/UK approval system, which will affect new motorhomes and campervans.
WHAT IS TYPE APPROVAL?
EU regulations stipulate that every new vehicle has to be type approved before it can be put on sale in the European Community. Approval can be gained in any EU country and the approval is recognised in all EU member countries and this has continued so far since Brexit.
Vehicle Type Approval is the confirmation that production samples of a type of vehicle, vehicle system or component meet specified performance standards. A vehicle with a VIN plate with an ‘e’ marking and components with an ‘E’ marking indicates EU Type Approval.
Soon motorhomes and other vehicles registered in Great Britain will have to show GB markings to
