CANARIES
THERE are so many reasons why the canary has been so popular throughout the history of aviculture. Its song, colour and lively personality recommend it, but coupled with that also is the birds’ ability to freely breed in captivity. Nevertheless, it seems increasingly that people are finding this bird difficult to breed in large numbers.
I believe that there are all manner of reasons for this, and that they are largely down to a combination of inbreeding and adherence to show standards that are simply not compatible with free-breeding birds. However, I suspect that there may be still another reason, and that is the over-complicating of what is actually a very
