Past, Present and Future
Springfield Armory, formally known as the United States Armory, was established due to an executive order issued by US President George Washington in 1777. The United States was in the grip of the American Revolutionary War when the executive order was given to establish a federal armoury dedicated to producing arms for its troops. The manufacturer churned out a plethora of military arms from 1794 to 1968, when it closed down due to budgetary concerns.
Springfield Armory® Inc. was resurrected in 1974 in the city of Geneseo, Illinois, by Robert Reese. A trap shoot champion at the tender ageadvocate of the US Second Amendment. His love of firearms formed the backbone of Springfield Armory® Inc. The company quickly made a name for itself by producing high-quality derivatives of the iconic 1911 Operator®, SAINT® AR-15 and the legendary M1A™. Springfield Armory® collaborated with HS Prodkt d.o.o to create the multi-award winning XD® series of striker-fired polymer pistols. It set the firearm community ablaze in 2022 by releasing its 1911 DS Prodigy™ as well as the compact Hellcat® series.
