Don Benn looks at the recent work of LMS class 7P 4-6-0 No. 46115 Scots Guardsman over the Settle and Carlisle line, Merchant Navy Pacific No. 35018 British India Line over the same route in September 2022 and on the Southern in 1964, plus D1921, also on the Southern, in 1966.
AFTER the‘Cumbrian Mountain Express’on January 28 this year ran with diesel assistance, all fingers were crossed that the repeat train on February 11 would be pure steam, and fortunately so it proved. I had decided not to risk a 4am start and midnight finish, and even my Scottish correspondent opted out.
