ne of the first attempts to bring a popular gaming franchise to the screen was the dismal 1993 Super Mario Bros movie. The game itself is an ultra-colorful platformer seeing Mario, an Italian plumber run through colorful worlds on his way to save a princess. The movie decided to ignore all of the source material and rather create a dystopian future ruled by lizards and casting Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo as Mario and Luigi. The problem with the casting was neither of them was Italian, they didn’t look like brothers and zero attempts were made to make them even closely resemble
