By choosing to name it ‘Ultimate’, Canyon continues to signal its confidence in its race bike. Certainly, racking up the WorldTour wins does its credentials no harm. But how does the latest iteration stack up against previous editions?

The spec

I’ve been testing the Ultimate CF SLX 8 Di2 model that features a full Shimano Ultegra R8100 groupset, which performed superbly, and also comes fitted with a 4iiii power meter.

Its DT Swiss 1400 ARC carbon wheels are shod with Schwalbe Pro One tyres and Canyon has chosen to fit 25mm rubber up front and 28mm at the rear, claiming this combination improves front-end aerodynamics and increases comfort out back.
