Experimental mixed-media techniques

I lived in Abu Dhabi for 11 years and in that time I was painting en plein air using Wallace Seymour acrylics, plant-based inks, and soft pastels on Two Rivers watercolour paper. The location and climate were demanding and required an alternative approach, so water-based and dry media were ideal.

In the September 2022 issue I wrote about the benefits of working with plant-based alternatives to turpentine and white spirit. For this article I will be experimenting with Wallace Seymour plant-based inks and ancient drawing stones and re-visiting some of the techniques that I used on the beaches of Abu Dhabi, applying them to the localriver in Stratford-upon-Avon where I enjoy walking and seeking inspiration for my paintings.
