Two Cello Concertos, and two previously unrecorded Sinfonie Concertanti, suggest that Carl Friedrich Abel has not received his due. For melodic ease and cheerful spirits, his Second Cello Concerto runs Haydn’s very close. Adagios are soulful; concertante works showcase soloists well. (SW)

This is a nicely paced recital, with a sacred cantata (BWV 51), a secular one (BWV 202) and the two soprano arias from the . Forsythe is a terrific soloist – pure-voiced but not bland, characterful but never mannered in her delivery. (JP)
