Driving up to where Metcalfe Models calls its home, you cannot help but feel intensely jealous of its stunning location. Nestled in the heart of Yorkshire, with the Settle-Carlisle line just a stone's throw away, the spectacular peaks, ancient woodlands and peaceful valleys, complete with dry stone walls and stunning architecture, provide the perfect backscene for this family-run business.
Father/daughter team Nick Metcalfe and Paula Thompson come to greet us, on what was a blustery autumnal day, the perfect conditions to see the Yorkshire Dales in its full glory.
Established in 1991, Metcalfe Models started life on the Metcalfe family's kitchen table, where Nick, armed with his love of architecture and graphic design, along with his wife Judy, created the first card kit of Embasy Station. Soon after, the company was commissioned to create a range of SettleCarlisle railway buildings, and, by 1997, Metcalfe Models was manufacturing a range of its own card kits. Growth
