Making scents

Growing aromatic flowers and herbs for their culinary, medicinal and cosmetic purposes is something I learned from my grandmother and my mother, who had extensive herb gardens and knew all about their therapeutic applications. My mother Kerttu was a Finnish biochemist who specialised in the study of essential oils long before aromatherapy became fashionable. She later set up a company to share her passion for essential oils that gradually developed into our family business, Aqua Oleum, which I now run with my daughter Natasha.

As a keen gardener I have naturally focused on cultivating aromatic plants, especially herbs, which are easy to grow in any space. Their properties are many and varied, and from just a few simple window boxes you can create brilliant recipes for better wellbeing.
