Budgeting and looking after your finances has never been much fun. But the advent of open banking a few years ago, along with advances in artificial intelligence have at least made it easier and less of a chore. There really is very little excuse now for not keeping tabs on how much you spend, where you spend it and when, no matter which of your accounts it comes from.
The apps we’ve tested here take advantage of open banking, which allows them to access data held by your bank about your spending, so you can see everything in one place. Many of them also help you budget by suggesting ways you could spend less. For example, by finding a better deal for broadband than you currently have. And they’ll suggest ways to save, such as rounding up spending to the nearest £1 and putting the difference in a savings pot.
While lots of
