Senses working overtime

Time seems to be moving rapidly. We are already nearing the last month of the doe season, which ends on 31 March. It is a period when we try to catch up on the more mature animals. The cull is going smoothly and my observations indicate that the deer have, on the whole, been fit and carry reserves of fat.

That reserve will be reduced as the season progresses because their food at this time is at its least nutritious. The fat reserve is absorbed, enabling them to survive until new growth emerges in spring. We can only hope it comes when expected and there is not a prolonged winter. If that were to occur, we would
