As resources become more expensive, mottos such as „The cheapest electricity is the electricity you don‘t use“ become more and more important. And, ultimately, there is some truth to this. But where can and should you save; what is a luxury and what is indispensable? Only you can answer these questions for yourself, but we‘ll give you a few tips on what to look out for, as well as a tool for calculating your studio‘s power requirements. We bet you‘ll find a few surprises.
1 How is power consumption calculated?
Each electrical device has a certain rated power, which isneeds about 20-40 watts. To measure consumption in cost, you calculate the watts times the hours the device is in operation. Then, divide that value by a thousand to get the kilowatts, and multiply that by the price your electricity provider charges per kilowatt-hour. In the magazine downloads, you‘ll find an Excel spreadsheet to work it out. There‘s more info in the box.
