Hoping the Phone Rings

In 1970, I was a senior at Iliff High School in northeast Colorado. It was a small school, and everyone knew who was dating who.

I was 17 at the time and had never been out on a date. Nevertheless, I was hoping one of the boys at my school would ask me to the prom.

There were quiteof them would ask a girl to be their prom date without any intention of dating her after that. More than likely they just didn't want to miss out on the experience of going to the prom with a girl, even if she wasn't “the one.”
