American University of Paris Summer Creative Writing Institute

The American University of Paris Summer Creative Writing Institute offers workshops to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers from June 28 to July 19 on the university’s campus in the seventh arrondissement of Paris. The faculty includes poet and fiction writer Siân Dafydd, poet and nonfiction writer Biswamit Dwibedy, and novelist Amanda Dennis. The cost of tuition is €2,050 (approximately $2,158) for auditors; the cost of tuition for transferable academic credit is €4,100 (approximately $4,316). Lodging is available in residence halls arranged through the university. Using only the online application system, submit a personal statement, academic transcripts (or a copy of a tertiary degree for auditors), and an online application form with a €50 (approximately $53) application fee by June 1. To apply for one of three travel stipends of up to €500 (approximately $526), submit via e-mail a creative writing sample of three to five poems of any length or five to 10 pages of prose and a paragraph explaining how this course in Paris might help you develop as a writer, in addition to the completed summer application and application fee, by March 31. Anne LaBastille Memorial Writing Residency

The Adirondack Center for Writing will offer a residency from September 24 to October 8 to six poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers at a lodge on Twitchell Lake in the Adirondack Mountains in New York. Three of the residents will be chosen from the Adirondack region and the other three from anywhere in the world. Residents are each provided with a private room and bathroom, work space, and all meals. There is no cost to attend the residency, but residents are responsible for travel expenses to and from Twitchell Lake. Using only the online application system, submit a writing sample of up to 10 pages with a $30 application fee between April 10 and May 10. Visit the website for more information.

Atlanta Writers Conference

The spring 2023 Atlanta Writers Conference, sponsored by the Atlanta Writers Club, will be held from May 5 to May 6 at the Westin Atlanta Airport Hotel. The conference includes a book fair featuring attendees’ books; presentations on the craft and business of writing, including a workshop on writing diverse characters for inclusive literature; agent and editor pitch sessions; manuscript sample critiques; query letter critiques; and Q&A panels for poetry, fiction, and nonfiction writers. Virtual participation will be available for all agent and editor meetings, including query letter critiques, manuscript sample critiques, and pitch activities, as well as the awards ceremony. Participating publishing professionals include acquisitions editors William E.
