IRON CITY

The two-minute pilot for Iron City teases an engaging sci-fi storyline on a mysterious world

The pilot episode of our new sci-fi series Iron City tells the story of one of the setting's heroes. A completely ordinary-at-first-glance character acts as a narrator. It is from him that we learn about the opposing factions, a vindictive security drone, and the specifics of his work as an engineer.

The series explicitly ridicules the established clichés and templates used in dystopian science fiction films. The only question remains: will the hero follow the beaten path, destroying the established order, or will another ending await?

Created in Unreal Engine 5 (UE5), we partly used Iron City as an exploration of Epic Games’ software. In this tutorial, we want to share our advice on a few tricks to become a better director in UE5, from developing an engaging plotline to making the most of ready-made assets in your own projects.

Ideally, a good plot should not depend on the setting. However, the visuals also play a huge role. Without them, we can't take the first step.

Intentional Bluescreen Lighting
“There used to be ideas about how you light bluescreen, but we've proved that you can put intention into it,” says Hall. “For the reactor scene, it's dark and lit by the cocoons of the creatures off daylight that's coming from 300 feet above from a g
