SOPHIE GREEN IS AN AWARDWINNING conservation and wildlife artist, who specialises in capturing the photorealistic details of animals and their surroundings. Growing up, she always had an innate passion for wildlife and nature, “much more than any artistic gift,” she says. Back then, she particularly sought solace in nature and animals as, when she was a child, she had a severe anxiety disorder called selective mutism. This meant she was unable to speak in most social situations. So, she spent most of her time outside; building dens or tending to broken birds’ eggs. She’s also read animal encyclopaedias and made fact files about different species.
Her first and last art tutor was her brother, who is 10 years older and more artistically gifted. They would sit on the living room floor and draw and paint together, with the older sibling giving her creative pointers.
