If you're a regular reader of 3D World, you've probably noticed that volumetric video is a rising technology behind various innovations in the CG space, from holographic models for online shoppers through to 360° replays for sports fans. But did you know it's also helping to power the continued rise of virtual production?

While various kinds of virtual cinematography and integration with CG technology haveUnreal Engine have given rise to a new filming technique we refer to as virtual production. With virtual production, filmmakers and content creators can create a 3D, photorealistic environment in a game engine, then display it on a series of LED walls in real-time. For the first time in history, CG can be captured in-camera.
