It makes a good deal of sense to marry the Sabre cartridge to its terrific Vertere stablemate, the DG-1S turntable. This deck, mated with the more entry-level Magneto cartridge, won our Best Turntable over £2000 Award for 2022. That cartridge is a very good £250-ish moving-magnet unit; but, as we say in the review, the deck can easily handle a more premium performer – and this Sabre is certainly that.

The fact that it is a moving-magnet design, rather than a moving coil (which many higher-end cartridges are) means the Sabre/DG-1S combination
