OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, Microsoft has been peppering its operating system with nags, nudges, recommendations, and offers. You might say that’s only to be expected, given that these days, most people haven’t had to pay to get a new version of Windows, they simply upgraded for free. Perhaps that’s why Microsoft is increasingly trying other ways to recoup its costs, including splashing adverts across its operating systems (both Windows 10 and 11). They’re popping up in the Start menu, Cortana, Action Center, the lock screen, and more.
