NOVICE RACER

For as long as I can remember I've been obsessed with cars but in particular, racecars, I've always enjoyed the competitive nature, the noise, the smell and everything about racing. Therefore, when I was a child growing up, if anyone asked me what I wanted to be, it was always ‘a racing driver’. It was something I wanted to do at some stage in my life if I could ever afford or have the opportunity to do it. I finally achieved my lifelong goal by competing in my first race in March 2022…

IN THE BEGINNING

My fixation with cars started at a young age, I always had model cars that I would zoom around the carpet, and I loved Ferraris, Jaguars, and Lotus, I thought these brands were just brilliant, mainly due to their motorsport prowess. I grew up in a house where my Father, Peter was equally interested in cars - there was always some form motoring content on the TV – anything from the Italian Job (the 2 x E-Types being a firm father/son favourite!), to Grand Prix and Touring Cars.

As my Father had grown up with heroes that piloted Jaguar C & D-Types in the 1950s, I would enjoy hearing stories about Hamilton, Moss & Rolt. With the 1980s Tom Walkinshaw Racing Jaguar programme, I loved watching the green XJ-S with that amazing V12 sound, and of course the 1988 XJR-9 Le Mans win.

Fast forward to the early 2000s and Jaguar’s F1 programme, with the impressive ‘home’ driver line up of Herbert & Irvine, backed up by some equally desirable ‘R Performance’ road cars, cemented my desire to one day race a Jaguar! This was also aided by
