THE DESIGN SUPERNOVA
KELLY WEARSTLER
Kelly Wearstler has done it all. A bevy of residential and commercial projects that reflect her multilayered curation of vintage pieces and statement elements finished with eclectic panache. Her own range of pieces — furniture, lighting, textiles, floorcoverings for The Rug Company — and the extension of her style into a lifestyle brand has her firmly in the design stratosphere. “The story of women in design and style is often overlooked but has enriched the world in countless ways,” she says. “Take for example Eileen Gray, a pioneer of the modern movement that produced incredible chrome, steel tube and glass furniture that I have long admired.”
WOMEN OF INFLUENCE “Throughout my life, the women in my family have continued to inspire me — they instilled in me a strong work ethic, and supported my independence and creative spirit.”
THE EXACTING EYE
NINA YASHAR
Nilufar Gallery has become an unmissable pit stop during Salone del Mobile and all because of pioneering curator, gallerist and patron Nina Yashar’s creative vision that transcends trends. The Tehran-born collector has always recognised the value of design, whether it’s the antique 19th-century carpets she stocked in the business she opened at 21 or the contemporary creators she champions and exhibits today. “I’ve never looked at the differences of gender, because creativity really has no gender,” she says. “But the women in the history of design have introduced to the world clear visions of femininity, realism and passion.”
WOMAN OF INFLUENCE “Gae Aulenti: the renovation project of the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome is a perfect masterpiece.”
