Building through the pandemic would be stressful enough for most people, but Karl and Caroline Payne needed to cope with additional challenges. The couple demolished their bungalow in March 2020, at the outset of lockdown, to build a contemporary two-storey family home in its place. Karl, an NHS doctor, juggled shifts on the Covid frontline with spending every spare hour working on the new timber-framed house.
